Granulated Blast Furnace Slag

Granulated Blast Furnace Slag manufactured in India by Tata Steel IBMD

Granulated Blast Furnace Slag is a non-metallic by-product produced during the process of Iron making. It primarily consists of silicates, alumino-silicates, and calcium-alumina-silicates. Due to strict process & quality control from generation to dispatch ensure IS 12089, 1987 is far exceeded.

Presently, Granulated Blast Furnace Slag manufactured in India by Tata Steel IBMD is also being exported to other South East Asian countries.

How is Granulated Blast Furnace Slag made?

  • The process of slag granulation involves pouring the molten slag through a high-pressure water spray in a granulation head, located in close proximity to the blast furnace.
  • Granulation process is the controlled quenching of the slag in cold water which does not give time for crystalline growth to take place.
  • During this process of quenching, the molten slag undergoes accelerated cooling under controlled water flow condition and gets converted into glassy sand with 97 % of the solid granulated slag particles less than 3 mm and an average size of around 1 mm.

Applications

  • Portland Slag Cement (PSC)
  • Plain Cement Concrete (PCC)
  • Ground Granulated Blast furnace Slag (GGBS)

Quality

At Tata Steel, we stress upon offering service along with the product. Our Blast Furnace Slag is highly consistent in quality and also adheres to the specifications required for producing the necessary grade of PSC.
