GGBS addresses the three major categories impacting the Environment:

  • Global Warming Potential (GWP):
    Environmental footprint of OPC and PPC are higher by 25% and 10% than PSC (made using GGBS and OPC) for GWP category.
    GWP is the contribution from the release of gases that contributes to global warming. GWP is represented by carbon dioxide equivalent.
  • Acidification Potential (AP):
    Acidification Potential is consequent to the release of toxic gases that contributes to the formation of acidic rain. Acidic Potential is represented by Sulphur dioxide equivalent.
    Environmental footprint of OPC and PPC are higher by 26% and 11% than PSC (made using GGBS and OPC)
  • Eutrophication Potential (EP):
    Eutrophication Potential (EP) is contributed by the presence of increased nutrient concentration in the waste water that affects aquatic life in water bodies. EP is represented by Phosphate equivalent.
    Environmental footprint of OPC and PPC are higher by 68% and 45% than PSC (made using GGBS and OPC)

Ld Slag - Tata Nirman & Tata Aggreto

Exploring the opportunities of a Circular Economy, Tata Steel has reached the Indian benchmark of 99% LD Slag utilization in FY’19 and is traversing the journey towards achieving the global benchmark of 100% utilization. Furthermore, our branded products help in reaching sustainability goals in the following ways:

  • Tata Nirman - Tata Nirman completely replaces one kg of natural sand in each fly ash brick manufactured. This has resulted in the saving of 240KT of natural sand in FY’19 in Jamshedpur alone. Also, approximately 18kg CO2 emission is saved per ton of clinker made using Tata Nirman.
  • Tata Aggreto - Use of Tata Aggreto has the potential to conserve ~16,500 tons of natural aggregates for each kilometer of National Highway constructed.

Tata Ferroshots:

TATA Ferroshots (cross-linked) is produced using an environment friendly process which aims to eliminate the following process hazards associated with Pooled Iron:

  • Environmental hazards in the form of dust and fumes emission
  • Thermal Energy loss and land degradation
  • TATA Ferroshots aims to eliminate the process and product hazards associated with Pooled Iron and paves the way for a more environment friendly and sustainable product.
